Making an Origami Pig 🐷 - Part 1

Since 2019 is the year of the pig, we thought we should take it upon ourselves and show you how to fold an origami pig. This cute origami pig is not difficult to make and you can use it to decorate your place or give it away to your favourite niece. Learn to make the head here and learn to make the body in part 2 of our guide.

Once you have mastered this skill, flaunt it in front of your little nieces and nephews this Chinese New Year. Or teach them, if time permits.

So, let's get started...

Part 1: Pig's Head

Things you’ll need:

  • 1 x Coloured Origami Paper or 1 x red packet (ang bao)
    • Coloured Markers / Pencils / Pens

Start off with a square piece of paper Cutting red packet into a square#1 - Start off with a square piece of paper. Alternatively, cut a red packet to get a squared paper.

fold and unfold the paper in half to create a line at the centre#2 - Fold and unfold the paper in half to create a line at the centre.

fold the top and bottom, and have them meet at the centre line.#3 - Fold the top and bottom, and have them meet at the centre line.

unfold back and turn the paper 90 degrees left#4 - Unfold back and turn the paper 90 degrees left. Repeat Step #2 and #3.

fold the right panel inwards to the centre line and unfold back#5 - Fold the right panel inwards to the centre line and unfold back. Repeat for the left panel.

open up the right panel and fold to create a crease line diagonally towards top up and bottom down#6 - Open up the right panel and fold to create a crease line diagonally towards top up and bottom down.

push down the paper to bring it to a close#7 - Push down the paper to bring it to a close.

turn the right flap upwards to form a triangle. Repeat for the left flap
#8 - Turn the right flap upwards to form a triangle. Repeat for the left flap.

at the other end, fold the two corners to the centre line#9 - At the other end, fold the two corners to the centre line.

fold a small triangle inwards#10 - Fold a small triangle inwards.

fold the small triangle inwards#11 - Fold the small triangle inwards.

flip the paper over and fold the bottom left and right corners inwards slightly#12 - Flip the paper over and fold the bottom left and right corners inwards slightly.

fold the 2 ends toward the centre to create the pig nose#13 - Fold the 2 ends toward the centre to create the pig’s nose.

flip the paper over, and fold down the 2 top triangles along the crease line#14 - Flip the paper over, and fold down the 2 top triangles along the crease line.

fold small triangles at the bottom 2 corners#15 - Fold small triangles at the bottom 2 corners.

fold the bottom inwards slightly#16 - Fold the bottom inwards slightly.

flip the paper over and fold the top 2 flaps down to create the pig ears #17 - Flip the paper over and fold the top 2 flaps down to create the pig’s ears.

draw out the pig’s nostrils and eyes#18 - Draw out the pig’s nostrils and eyes. 🐷


CONGRATULATIONS!!!

You have completed the pig’s head, and you are halfway there!
